About Us
We are Robyn and Curtis Pennell, owners and founders of Brightwood Samoyeds and proud members of the Samoyed Association of Canada. We both grew up in Corner Brook, Newfoundland where we met and married. After graduating from University, we moved to Dartmouth, NS to pursue our careers. Along the way we acquired a rescue dog who became our pride and joy. Feeling as though he needed a companion, I decided that it was time to get the Samoyed I had always wanted and Curtis agreed! Some research brought me to the Dushanbe Samoyeds website and connected me with Linda Johnson, from whom we purchased our first Samoyed. We named him Ryder and he is the best pet that anyone could ever ask for! He is a great ambassador for the breed and everyone who meets him falls instantly in love. Fast forward six years, and we felt it was time to add another Sammy to our family. Once again, I connected with Linda and made arrangements to purchase another puppy. While waiting for our puppy to be born, we decided to find out more about the dog fancy and attended our first dog show as "handlers" in Dartmouth 2014. It was during that weekend that we fell in love with another of Linda's adult dogs, and begged her to let the dog come home with us. Lucky for us, she did and that's how Tyler came into our life.
In May of 2014, our "Winter" was born. A beautiful dog with an independent spirit and a lovely sidegait, she and I are wading through the world of dog showing and handling together. We've made lots of mistakes but learned lots from Linda, and other lovely dog breeders and handlers we have met along the way. We signed up for classes from Brian Stevens and got a better idea of what should be happening in the ring. She very quickly finished her Championship with a Group 1st and three Best Puppies in Group which is a testament to her quality.
We do not undertake breeding lightly. We will do so with the guidance of the many wonderful Samoyed breeders that we have met. Our goal is to breed healthy and happy Samoyeds that are true to type. They will be raised in our home, underfoot, so that they are exposed to all of the happenings of family life. It is not our intent to rush into breeding, so we are taking things slowly and learning along the way.
Our puppies come with a written guarantee and will be microchipped and registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. We support new puppy owners for the lifetime of the dog. Our puppies will always have a home with us, therefore if they need to be rehomed at any time they will be welcomed back. If you are interested in making one of our pups your "forever" dog, please contact us for more information.
